Research shows that nearly one-third of men globally infected at least one type of genital HPV and about one fifth of men are infected one or more high-risk HPVs (HR-HPV).This study provides important data to understand the spread and prevent HPV in men globally.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) or human papilloma virus is one of the most common sexually transmitted virus infectious diseases worldwide. Most men and women who have sex will be infected with genital HPV at least once in their lives.Although many cases of HPV infection have no symptoms, they can lead to long -term sequelae and death. Each year more than 340,000 women die from cervical cancer. In men, HPV infections often manifest in the form of genital warts and increases the speed of HPV transmission. In addition, HPV infection is related to penile, anus and pharyngeal cancer, often related to HPV-16.
The international cancer research agency (IARC) is estimated that there are about 69,400 cancer cases in men caused by HPV in 2018.
The researchers conducted system evaluation and general analysis, synthesizing data from 65 studies conducted from January 1, 1995 to 1/6/2022, including 44,769 men.Using these data, the researchers estimate the HPV infection rate in the male genitals in general, specifically according to the type and age globally and by the region.
The main findings include: nearly one -third (31%) of men around the globe are infected at least one genital HPV.About 1/5 (21%) men are infected one or more high-risk HPVs (HR-HPV).
In addition, HPV-16 is the most common high risk HPV, accounting for 5%, followed by HPV-51, HPV-52, HPV-59 and HPV-18.The general circulation rate of HPV is 21%, with the circulation rates ranging from 1% to 75% of studies.
The synthetic circulation rate of any type of HPV is the highest in Africa Sahara, followed by Europe and North America. The lowest incidence in East and Southeast Asia, and the incidence of this area is the only estimate that has a significant difference compared to other areas. The combined circulation rate of any type of HPV, HR-HPV and HPV-16 in countries with a slightly higher income than low and medium-income countries.
The higher HPV infection rate in young men (especially 25-29 years old) and maintains a high level throughout adulthood. The typical ratio of age circulation for HPV-16 among HR-HPV in East and Southeast Asia, Europe and North America shows that the circulation rate increases from 15 to 20 years old and then maintainedStable in older age groups;Caribbean and Sahara Africa, where the curve tends to go down after reaching the peak.
This study provides the latest common data on HPV infections in the male genitals globally and in the region, emphasizing that men have sexual activity, regardless of age, are sources of infection.Important HPV infection. These data are important to develop public health strategies and immunization plans. For example, HPV vaccine chemotherapy, four and non -chemotherapy can protect against different viruses, thus reducing the risk of related cancers.
